Roy R. Schroff, 77, of Hermann, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, at his home.

He was born in St. Louis, Sept. 10, 1946, the son of the late Harold E. and Cytha F. (Kallmeyer) Schroff.

He was the husband of Mary (Overkamp) Schroff. They were united in marriage Oct. 17, 1970, at St. George Church, Hermann.

Roy proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Hermann United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post 4182, he was a proud active member and past director of the Missouri Professional Auctioneers Association, as well as a member of the National Auctioneers Association.

Roy owned and operated Hermann Oil Company. He later became co-owner of Kallmeyer/Schroff Auctions along with his uncle Joy Kallmeyer. In 2003, Roy purchased the second half of the auction business from Joy, as Joy semi-retired. Roy is the fourth generation Auctioneer in the Kallmeyer Family (Roy’s maternal side). In his 50 plus years in the auction business he has had over 1,500 auctions. He announced the livestock auction at the Gasconade County Fair for many years. He spent his entire adult life working with and for the public and enjoyed the challenge of helping people as they change directions or have a special need in their lives. In January 2012 Lucas and Andrea Schneider bought Schroff Auctions as Roy and Mary Schroff wanted to slow down. In August of 2012 the name of the company was officially changed to Schneider Auctioneers, LLC. Roy won the title of Missouri Professional Auctioneers Association Bid Calling Champion at the Missouri State Fair in 1991 and was inducted into the M.P.A.A. Hall of Fame in 1995. The M.P.A.A. named an award after him, called the Roy Schroff Award.

He was preceded in death by parents, Harold and Cytha; sister, Myrtle Ann Klein; brothers-in-law, Lee and Russel Overkamp; and sister-in-law, Alma Bryan.

Roy is survived by wife, Mary Schroff, of Hermann; brother-in-law, Ron Klein; many nieces and nephews, Ed Klein and wife Mollie, Mike Klein and wife Anita, Carol Overkamp, Tim Bryan and wife Christine, Tom Overkamp, Nick Overkamp, Karen Graue, Lisa Bryan-Conforti and husband Alex, Jennifer Overkamp and Chris Bryan; many great niece and nephews; and great-great niece and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 7, at Hermann United Methodist Church, Hermann, with Rev. Beth Duckworth officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Haven Memorial Gardens, Hermann. Memorials may be given to Hermann United Methodist Church or Hermann Area Crusade Against Cancer.
