Janet S. Smith, 80, of Cuba, left this life at her home Friday, Sept. 6, 2024.

She was born Nov. 18, 1943, to James and Okel (Rutz) Tayloe in St. Louis.

She was united in marriage to John D. Smith, Jan. 20, 1962, in Bem. To this union four sons were born Jim, Jeff, Joe and Jon.

Janet was a member of Trinity Chapel Presbyterian Church and Past Worthy Matron of O.E.S. Chapter No. 398. She retired after many years as a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She enjoyed cooking and flower gardening. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Janet is preceded in death by parents James and Okel; and son, Joseph Andrew Smith.

She is survived by husband of 62 years John of Cuba; sons, Jim Smith and wife Michelle of Cuba, Jeff Smith and wife Barb of Owensville, Jon Smith and wife Teresa of Walnut Grove; grandchildren, Lauren Bearden and husband Neil, Claire Smith and fiancé Eric Feldmann, Cassidy Kliethermes and husband Tyler, Nathaniel Smith and wife Whitney, Braden Smith, India Herrmann and husband Nick, Jonathon Smith and fiancé Kaylin Compton; great-grandchildren Brooks, August, Aiden, Charlie and two more on the way; sister Carole Dotson and husband Sonnie of Owensville; and brothers-in-law Edward Smith and wife Connie of Cuba, and Robert Smith and wife Barb of St. James.

O.E.S. service was held Sunday, Sept. 8, followed by the funeral service at Trinity Chapel Presbyterian Church, Cuba, with Pastor Don Martin, officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cuba, Missouri.

Memorials would be appreciated to Trinity Chapel Presbyterian Church or to the charity of choice.
