James Gerard Klausner, 72, of Mt. Sterling, lost his fight with cancer on Sept. 13, 2024. He passed away at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, surrounded by his friends and family.
Jim was born in St. Louis Aug. 6, 1952. He was raised in Shrewsbury and graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School in 1970.
Jim dedicated himself to the communication sector, where he worked various contracting and supervisory positions for Southwestern Bell, Schatz Underground, CTS Contracting, Holleran Utilities, and Gonzales Companies. In the Owensville area, he worked for Adams Real Estate, Jost Tire, and Jim Butler Linn Chevrolet. Jim had an entrepreneurial spirit, working in construction early in life and later going on to start his own steak butter business, “Uncle Jim’s Gourmet Spread.”
Throughout his life, he loved playing in softball tournaments, organizing “The Klausner Klassic” bass fishing tournaments, and hosting hayrides for friends and family. His biggest passion was people. He will always be remembered as someone who could make friends everywhere he went and he knew exactly what to say to leave a smile on your face.
Jim was preceded in death by mother and father, Joseph and Rose Marie Klausner; and sister-in-law, Barbra Klausner.
He is survived by siblings Nancy Tabash and husband Ed, and Steven Klausner; loving wife, Cindy Klausner; son, Ethan Klausner and wife Robyn; stepchildren, Scott Stranghoener and wife Katie, Ryan Stranghoener and significant other Catherine, Steven Brandhorst, Mary Korhmann and husband Greg; as well as several grandchildren, Camilla, Addison, Maggie, Ember, Braylee, Austin, Wyatt, Amelia, Landon and Waylon.
A memorial service will be held Sept. 21, at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Owensville, a visitation will be from 9–11 a.m. with a service at 11 a.m.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in the name of James Klausner to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
