Turning back Belle’s Lady Tigers to open the week, Andy Emmons’ Hermann Lady Bearcats welcomed Washington’s Lady Blue Jays to Herman High School last Tuesday night for a Highway 100 hoops showdown.
Trailing 22-17 with 5:20 until halftime, Ava Hughes sparked a 14-2 run ending the first half with a 3-pointer that eventually gave Hermann a 31-24 halftime lead on another 3-ball from Karigan Lane in the closing seconds of the second quarter.
Briefly behind 37-35 in the final minute of the third quarter, Karigan Lane hit another clutch 3-pointer giving Hermann a 38-37 lead after three quarters helping them to never trail again the rest of the way in their 51-45 win over Washington.
Canning four 3-pointers during the game, Karigan Lane led the Lady Bearcats with a team-high 14 points in addition to pulling down four rebounds.
Macy Bader and Ava Hughes nearly made it three Hermannites in double figures finishing with nine points each.
Hughes also added seven rebounds and three steals and three blocked shots.
Kealie Lane chipped in eight points including five of those on free throws in the fourth quarter. She also added five rebounds and six steals to her eight points.
Kennedie Witthaus scored four of her five points in the fourth quarter.
Kimber Hale scored all four of her points in the second quarter while Jill Rood rounded out the Hermann scoring against Washington with two points on a first-quarter bucket.
Elizabeth Reed led Washington with a game-high 16 points.
Cierra Murrell just missed a double double for the Lady Blue Jays finishing with nine points and nine rebounds.
Held to two points in the fourth quarter, Hermann’s JV Lady Bearcats dropped a 30-21 decision to the visiting Washington JV Lady Blue Jays.
Remi Groner led Hermann with seven points followed by four points apiece from Hannah Epple, Hallie Kallmeyer and Katie Krueger.
Carlie Walkenbach rounded out the JV Lady Bearcat scoring against Washington with two points.
Destiny Highley led Washington’s JV Lady Blue Jays with 11 points.
